I¹ve got some big news (sorry for the long e-mail) from Kevin O¹Neill with
the Fraternal Caucus group:

> ³As of Friday, April 27, we now have 106 House sponsors of the Collegiate
> Housing and Infrastructure Act and 22 sponsors in the Senate.  We are well
> ahead of our sponsorship pace from the 2005-06 Congress as two years ago
> today, we had just 24 House sponsors and only 3 Senate sponsors.
>
> ³We picked up 18 more House sponsors and 3 more Senate sponsors this week
> alone.  Your 400 Congressional meetings last week have so far led to a total
> of 61 new House sponsors and 7 new sponsors in the Senate.  We are well ahead
> of our pace from the last Congress.²

This is huge guys, we are making progress. And Delta Chi is leading the pack
(big time!) with the number of letters written and number of guys registered
with the Caucus. As Patrick Alderdice, President of Pennington & Co. and
Delta Chi alumnus, said about his time in D.C., ³It was great to be a Delta
Chi at the NIC meeting.²

You guys are making Delta Chi look good, but we¹re not even close to done.

We need you to do three simple things:

1. Get all your brothers in your chapter (and you if you haven't yet) to
submit their letters of support. Instructions for writing the letters is
right below this and it takes maybe 45 seconds. Forward this to your chapter
and alumni listservs and let¹s get everyone involved!
2. If you haven¹t registered as a member of the Capital Fraternal Caucus,
PLEASE do so. That way we can, as a Fraternity, help get this stuff passed.
To register, go to: http://www.fraternalcaucus.org/register
3. Call alumni of other fraternities and sororities from your campus and get
them on board. Delta Chi is leading the effort but we can¹t do this alone.
Get your Greek friends on board!!!

Please, please, please help Delta Chi in this effort. Who knows, your letter
could be the one that finally tips the scales and gets more Senators and
Representatives on board. I ask you personally to help us with this.

Yours in the Bond of Delta Chi,
Matt

P.S. - there is a list of new sponsors at the end of this e-mail if you¹re
curious who is new to jump on board.

--- LETTER-WRITING INSTRUCTIONS

I am sincerely asking for your brief help with a very, very important Bill
being debated in Congress as we speak. Currently, universities can use
charitable donations to improve student facilities like dorms, dining halls
and social areas. Charitable donations are often used to make important
upgrades to fire prevention and life safety systems. However, Delta Chi¹s
Foundation is currently prohibited from making similar upgrades to the
housing operated by our chapters.

This distinction creates an unfair division between the host institution and
other not-for-profit housing like fraternities. In addition, it places the
members of Delta Chi at risk and does not afford them equal opportunity to
live in modern and safe housing. Fraternity and sorority house fires have
twice the injury rate and five times the property damage of other campus
fires because only eight percent of Greek houses are equipped with fire
sprinklers.

All I ask is for you to spend 45 seconds to visit the link below and fill
out an electronic letter to your representatives asking for their support:

http://www.bipac.net/alert.asp?g=fc

After you fill in your information (use your registered voting address for
your home address!), you¹ll go to a page that asks you to fill in the intro
paragraph. You can simply copy and paste the below sample and fill in the
two bracketed areas to fit who you are:
----

I am writing to ask you to sponsor the Collegiate Housing and Infrastructure
Act of 2007. I am [A MEMBER/THE CHAPTER PRESIDENT/AN ALUMNUS] of Delta Chi
Fraternity at [NAME OF INSTITUTION], and I believe this bill is a very
important step to improve the safety of students in my chapter and other
students at my alma mater. The bill needs more support to pass Congress this
year.

----
Again, it will take you less than 60 seconds and it might just get enough
votes in support of this legislation to allow tax-deductible gifts to be
used 100% on house safety renovations. Imagine what that could do for Delta
Chi and its housing support from alumni!

Please help!!!!!!!

ITB,
Matt
